Home Duties
Duties in the home are shared amongst the residents (refer code of conduct (link to code document) and MerkosWomen Inc. policies). Girls living at Merkos will enjoy companionship with two older madrichot, recruited from the Jewish community. The madrichot act as role models for the girls in a warm, caring and friendly manner.
Shabbosim
Girls are billeted to various homes for Shabbos meals and once a month, they organise a communal Friday night meal for friends and guests. This affords the girls the opportunity to learn home making and organisational skills, as well as enabling others to experience Shabbos in a warm and inviting atmosphere. A guest couple is invited to enrich the evening.
Our madrichot will ensure that the girls have a suitable place to go for both Friday night dinner and Shabbos lunch. Occasionaly the girls will attend a Shabbaton at a local Shul and assist with programs and shiurim.
Location
MerkosWomen Inc. is located in the heart of Melbourne's vibrant Jewish community in East St. Kilda. The Merkos rooms and accommodation are minutes away from Melbourne's premiere kosher shopping district and public transport.
Communal Outreach
Girls are encouraged to engage in mivztoyim (outreach) and communal activities every Friday afternoon by giving out Shabbat candlesticks, and by visiting residential homes. There is also opportunity to assist in Friendship Circle, visit aged care facilities and help families in the community.
