General info for overseas participants

MerkosWomen Inc. offers a year long program of cultural learning and enrichment to overseas young ladies wishing to explore Jewish Australian culture.

The program includes a variety of programs and experiences that will ensure a highly enjoyable year. These include weekly Shabbos meals with various local families, participation in youth camps, volunteer work in the local Jewish community and excursions to various museums and heritage/tourists sites, such as Ballarat, The Dandenong Ranges, Werribee Zoo and Healesville Sanctuary.

Participants are provided with beautiful accommodation in the heart of Melbourne's Jewish community. The accommodation includes comfortable shared bedrooms, modern formal and informal lounging areas. There is also a large kitchen in which the girls are guided in preparing communal based meals and are given the opportunity to explore the cultural aspect of food preparation. For the hotter summer months, there is a swimming pool and outdoor area.

Additionally, participants are assigned local mentors to guide them in their cultural learning and experiences in Melbourne.

MerkosWomen Inc.'s cultural enrichment program provides an extremely comfortable, happy communal lifestyle for the year of growth in which particpants walk away with inside knowledge of Jewish Australian culture and the ability to impart this knowledge and experience to others.
