Introduction
MerkosWomen Inc. is a home away from home for young Jewish women from around the world seeking self-discovery.
From its humble beginnings in 2001 as weekly Torah groups for university students, Merkos Women has blossomed into an enriching Jewish experience for women. For those seeking a full year experience, or for the working woman or university student looking to supplement her schedule with Torah, Merkos caters to every need.
Women from all paths of life choose to join Merkos because of the high quality learning and the personal care each girl receives. Attention is paid to creating a warm and sincere environment in which participants can thrive in their knowledge and practice of Judaism.
Merkos is part of the worldwide Chabad organisation Merkos Linyonei Chinuch, under the auspices the Lubavitcher Rebbe. Keeping in line with his vision for every Jewish woman, Merkos aims to cultivate a strong and dedicated generation of Jewish women armed with knowledge and enthusiasm for every facet of Jewish life.
Participants have the opportunity to walk away with a solid sense of Jewish identity and the ability to impart to their families and wider communities the beauty and richness of the Jewish heritage.
The founding ethos of MerkosWomen Inc. is that Torah is crucial to the development of today's Jewish woman. MerkosWomen Inc. appreciates this and recognizes that Jewish women hold the key to Jewish continuity. Girls walk away having covered ground in Halacha, Chassidus and various other topics and have the ability to impart this knowlege and the skills learnt in their shlichus and in the home.
The Program & Mentors
Merkos offers an innovate learning program, covering in depth Jewish learning as well as practical life skills. Core (daily) topics include chassidus, halacha and chumash. In addition, bi-weekly afternoon and evening sessions cover a broad range of topics, such as the gemora, sichos, moshiach and perush hatefillah.
In addition to the traditional teachings, girls also partake in chavrusa. Those with advanced skills and prior knowledge join together with those stepping into seminary for the first time. The benefit is felt by both groups.
Leaders at Merkos are carefully handpicked for their high-level of knowledge and communication abilities, as well as their warmth and interest in each girl. Sessions are small and intimate - giving participants the opportunity to receive individual attention and to excel in their learning.
